Summary of Figures Reveals Chamber of Commerce Employment Bureau Active. Unlike the year of 1320. the year just past did not present a serious shortage of labor. During the early part of tho year 1320 there still prevailed a serious shortage of labor In all ita branches to such an extent that opportunities for employment far exceeded applications. For this reason the .s-um total of placements tor the past year is considerably lower than under normal conditions. The Chamber of Commerce employment bureau reports 2.37S applications for the jast 12 months and 1 ,- t.11 p'aceiment3. The labor surplus has, during the past year, been a matter of grave concern In practically all comm.unIt:es, but the situation in South Bend did not become grave until two months ago. A comparison of figures of the number of applications for work previous to Jan. 1. 1920 and the present time is ihown by tho following figures. Three-month period before 102 0; applicants, 1,293; applications for help, 2.SÖ7; number placed, 873. Of the number applying, only 12 were roldicr3 and 25 were placed. The present employment department of the Chamber of Commerce was the outgrowth of the American Legion employment bureau which was established in the Commerce building" In January, 1321. From. January to August 500 ex-soldiers applied for work and were placed. Chilians Seek Work. During the month of August many civilians as well as ex-soldiers were, out of work and the Chamber of Commerce and American Legion employment office was opened. In September the employment situation became so acute that the Chamber of Commerce placed two peopla In charge of the department. The following is the report of tn-3 department to Dec 31:

number of inquiries received here by persons seeking information concerning every phase of rabbit breeding. It is declared that at the present time the utility side of the fancy type Ls being only partially developed, that Is, the meat value, while tho possibilities offered in the proper marketing of the fur have been virtually neglected. The big problem of the industry, it Is said. Is finding sale for rabbit skins instead of throwing them away. In other countries they are used for fur. With prices of hides of commercial fur animals maintaining a steady demand, breeders fee a fine opportunity to boost the fur of the rabbit. It Is stated as a fact that some breeds of American rabbits are being used extensively in other nations for their fur and ap-parent-
