may offer will be greatly appreciated. C. If the windings of the armature and condenser are In working order, and interruptor points are properly adjusted and the- magneto timed properly it may be advisable to test the strength of the magnets. In replacing the magnets it may be possible that opposite poles have" been placed on same side. When the magnetic pull of the magnets becomes weakened It ' la necessary to have them remagnetlzed.

ctor Department The steering gear In my car causes a grinding noLse when turning corners. Several mechanics have told me all that is needed Is plenty of grease. I have filled the pear several tlme with grease. It seems to help a little, although the noise is not eliminated entirely and every day now It seems to be getting worse. I do not like to feed that there Is anything wrang with the steering gear, but not knowing anything about it I would appreciate a suggestion before going to the expense of having the whole thing taken out. OWTER. In most steering heads there are thrust hearings to allow perfect freedom of action and prevent binding, when strains are applied such as m turning corners, etc. One of these bearings may be broken. It Is very obvious that if grease will not stop the noise the trouble Is- more serious than simply the want of lubrieation. It is dangerous to run a eir with an imperfect steering gear, and for this reason would cer h.inly suggest that no time he lost

Keep your ear open for any noises from the engine so that the slightest change will bo noticed. A loo?e ' connecting rod always gives plenty of warning and the careful driver will notice it and have repairs made . as foon as possible. I ! I The noL?e in the engine can often ' bo reduced by installing new screws in the valve lifters These points are subject to considerable wear and often wear to such an extent that the valve time Is affected. i Do not over-prime the engine. 1 Gasoline does not vaporize readily at low temperatures. If overprtmlng is suspected it Is well to oren the compression reliefs to clear the : cylinders. i An engine should not be permitted to labor even if It can be kept going. When running very slowly ; under a load the . sudden blows acting ag'in?t the resistance of the; slow-moving crankshaft set up, tremendous stresses that are un-1

necessary and very injurious. When something seerru to rattle around the body of your car and you don't know just what it is, get someone to hold the doors tight while you drive. If that stops the rattle, get some anti-rattlers for the door and apply them. One loose door will cause a lot of annoyance.
