$69,000 to Theodore Roosevelt.

Shumon. exchanged the money for a note dated June 21. Mrs. Burkett produced a number of receipts for interest at $4.000 a year, which che said she had been paid by Col. POISONED CHICKENS, SAYS COURT VERDICT Srrlal to The News-Tines: ELKHART, Oct. 11. In the c!ty court Monday Frank Crull, who lives near Station 19. was fined $30 after being found gruilty of poisoning chickens owned by Mrs. Isr.ac Chan-

Crull filed an appeal to tho superior court. Mrs. Chandler's young daughter and Agnes Foreman, another young girl of tho neighborhood, testified that they saw Crull scatter a pall full of substance around a corn stalk cn his place. The Chandler chickens were at larg-e and they ato the stuff around the stalks. Within a few hours 12 dead chickens lay aboui tho Ptalk. The incident occurred last Monday. Crull, taking the witness stand in his own behalf, admitted that the chickens had been a source of annoyance to him but insisted that he had never poisoned them. He dedared he had scattered rat poison around his place and had notified the neighbors that he had done so. Mrs. Chandler decJired she had not been notified.
