kill an obnoxlou cat a few months before her baby was born. The brother used a 1. itchet. but. instead of braining the cat. cut off one of its ears. The injured cat, escaping from the man. rushed acrom the 3ard and Jumped against the window where the expectant mother was watching the performance. When the child was born it had but one ear. This eerns very convincing, and certainly Is a remarkable coincidence. But here is the truth: It 13 unusual for the expectant mother to know her condition until Feveral months have elap.ed. With-

fill Uli ' iiiuitiiiri i Mil) cjrk a j t o j before it.i birth, the little body has

fully formed. all Its parts are defined. It is tiny, of course, but everything is there. It is impossible for any

mental erootion or Hhock of an7j kind to cut off a finger, a leg or an J

ear. That children are born without certain members Is unquestioned but the misfortune Is easily and completely explained on physical grounds. No expectant mother need give herself a moment's worry over "marking" her baby. It does not and cannot happen. You have seen a perwon with a great purple stain covering all one Fide of the face, perhaps. This i3 called a "port wine mark." The doctors call this ort of trouble a "nevus" or "angioma." It is really a thickening of the blood-vessels or an abnormal local increase in their number. In a ffons. It is a bunch of Enlarged capillaries. TheSo marks, present at birth or appearing very shortly afterwards, are cf various sizes. Some may be like the head of a pin and others as blfT as your hand. They may ap

pear anywhere on the body, but are '

found usually on the head, face, arm.s and neck. It is rare for angioma to remain the fize they are when first noticed. They grow larger usually, but, on the contrary, may lessen in area. They are more noticeable during exercise. Sometimes a small nevus may be made to appear by applying pressure. I have tried painting them with collodion. The collodion con

tracts and exerts continuous prrsaure. It must be applied every day for feveral months to trlng results.

and, of courpe, will fill In pronounced cases. The electric needle is a very satisfactory way of getting rid of a small nevus. This brings about a. t permanent cure In a suitable case. : The X-ray and radium, skilfully I applied by an expert, have produced very wonderful results in pome case-. i It takes time and care, but the rc- i suits have Justified their use. I Surgical removal harj been resort- , ed to successfully, and electrolysis' has been Uid with satisfaction. Soft warts, varying in size from a raustard seed to a hickory nut. j may be found scattered over the j skin. Electrolys.3 and surgery will remove them. Other Skin Deformities. i

There are various growths and deformities of the skin which appear in congenital defect. Most of them are readily dealt with by the doctor. If your child is born with some deformity or blemish, take advice at once regarding treatment and the best time to administer it. Do not sit down and cTleve over it, no matter how humiliating it may be to you. Every mother takes pride in a perfect baby, but what seems to you like a dreadful blemish may be Fom-ething that can be easily and quickly removed. Talk with your doctor about it. Above all else, den't let your mind dwell on morbid things. Do not give way to fear. Nature has guarded againft every external influence which might hurt your b.iby. Go forward, calm and unafraid!

Ibeit Memorial Trees

i Honor Of Oir Soldier Dead

And Why You Should Buy Your Tree fJOW Today The Memorial The association aims to preserve the memory of St. Joseph County's World war service men and Red Cross Nurses, in a living avenue of beautiful trees; arching and shading the Lincoln Highway along its entire stretch of sixteen miles through the county. The trees will be planted at sixty foot intervals on both sides of the highway outside of city and village limits. At each end of the avenue bronze tablets will be erected, proclaiming the memorial and its purpose to all who pass by. While on the one hand, the avenue will be in itself a complete memorial, yet opportunity is offered for each donor to establish his or her tree as a single memorial to a loved one. Your Memorial Will Cost You Seven Dollars and Fifty Cents Seven dollars and fifty cents includes the original cost of the tree, the insurance of the tree to its second season and the maintenance for three years and your share of the overhead expense for running th is campaign. Our plan to plant the trees in October gives employment to a great many men in the county who need work at this time. It is possible for two people to purchase a tree, and register it in both of their names. When more than two people purchase a tree it will be registered in the name of the person whom this group may select. A great many American Elms will be used, also sugar maple and oak to complete the units of trees now growing on the highway. No trees will be planted where a healthy tree is now growing. How To Buy Your Tree Stakes along the entire Highway have numbers on them which will indicate the number of the tree. If it is not convenient to go on the highway and select your tree a large map is mounted at headquarters where you can see the location of landmarks and section lines and make your selection accordingly. Campaign Closes October 8 St. Joseph's County living Memorial is erected for the living and the dead. It is a memorial for all who served from St. Joseph County. If you wish a tree dedicated to the memory of any one boy, come into headquarters now, select your tree and register your memorial. TREES WILL BE PLANTED THIS MONTH TREES WILL BE DEDICATED ARMISTICE DAY Headquarters at the Chamber of Commerce. Phone, Lincoln 6775 ST. JOSEPH COUNTY MEMORIAL TREE FORESTRY ASSN., INC.
