EXCESSIVE HEAT CAUSES VACATION
CHICAGO, July 7. Excessive heat today forced the closing down of eight of the hops and foundries of the Crane Co.. giving 5,000 workmen an enforced vacation. J. B. Uerryman, an oflicial of the company, said that it was impossible tor the workmen to withstand the superheated foundries. One man, supposedly crazed with the heat, plunged to his death in Ivike Michigan today and five others have, died within the last 24 hours from causes attributed to the heat wave. Dozens of prostrations have occurred. Although no official oder opening the parks to the public has been
issued, police did not interfere with thousands who made the parks and beaches their sleeping place during the night.
