"retting even" with i hor husbar.d'r partners wife, or at least, he used be the wife of tho husband's prtn r. Tho partnership has been dlpoved. The woman who iije.3 to be tho wife of the hu?bind's partner had a smart party at her smirt new hous-. and she didn't ask the woman v ho "got oven." Small duo. There was no ypecial rrajon why j-he should ak her she hidn": known her very long and she was not particularly Intimate w;th her. hr.il ihii party was juwt for her M and Intimate friends. She couldn't hav" it for anyone e!.e, because the smart nw dining-room like mrs of th- new dining-room In thi? ago of dir.ing in restaurants wouldn't hold more than 2 0 persons comfortably. And I happen to know that the woman who pave tho party left out one of her own bridesmaids ami asked hrr own f ister-in-law to ftay at home. And both of them were sensible enough to see the reason and to be reasonable. Hut then, of cour. longed" anyhow, and it didn't matter so much. Tho woman who's been "getting even," didn't belong, but she wanted to, awfully. So she schemed and plotted and planned, and was so sugar swee-t to partner's wife that no one could think what she meant by It. Hut fho knew. Sh" intended to get Into the same set. and when she once got in, she intended to make it rather uneasy for partner's wife, because partner's wife had been a little slow and stupid about seeing the situation, and then there was the party, and she couldn't go. after all. And so she s t to work "getting even." She invited a roor relation of the other woman's to isit her. a rather dL-'agreeable poor relation and sh" Introduced her to everyone as Mrs. So-and-So's ister-in-la w, and Sister-in-law did the rest. No, they didn't spread any Ftories, exactly, but they smiled mysteriously, and lifted their eyebrows, and people began to wonder and to gossip. The Cost. And the "getting even" woman fussvd and fumed, and cried and nagged, til she got her husband to he. as jealous of hia partner as she was of his partner' wife. The woman who's, been "getting even" was dellzhted at all this though, of course, she tell It as if he were very. ery sorry, only what nhe ?a and the way she looks do not in the least agree. And ho isn't a bit prettier or more interesting or more attractive, and not half as happy as she w a. before she began to "get even." I wonder if people ever really do get even with anyone but themselves. I wouldn't give the Gitterest enemy I ever had In the world the satisfaction of making me He awake at night to hate him. Lt him do the hating I'll do the forgetting. That's the Lest way in the world to get even with anyone about anything. Forget all about it and you won't put 10 years into your face when you do it.
