Reports have been going the rounds of Washington for several days to the effect that tho proposed punitive campaign against postmasters and other federal officials who are accused of circulating derogatory stories concerning the republican candidate In the recent campaign is to be dropped. The reports have been somewhat circumstantial in character and have been bawd on tho theory that nothing would bo gained by stirring up the mess and that if punishment is to visited im
