"Thos gentlemen who have announced their candidacy for the r.omlnation of mayor in opposition to me, have a perfect right to and phould be commended for aspiring to this high office. "Is Only Human' "I. however. ni only human, an, feeling a.I il that I liae rendered a good account to th people for the trust they fiave placed in me, and knowing the importance of pushing to a successful completion certain business projects affecting our entire ity, I am asking the people of the city to endorse, by their franchise, what I have already accomplished and to vest in me power and authority to continue the important measures now well under wa y. "There are oino good people that may. and no doubt, do feel that, during rny administration .sufficient s.trefs h.is not been laid on the enforcement of certain laws that they are particularly Iniercsted'ln. It has been my policy during the present administration, and it will be my policy if renominated ami reelected, to' do my utmost to nee that the laws of the .state and city are enforced. It has not been the policy of the present administration, nor will it be the policy of the next, should I be the executive head, to epk out trivial offenders and hail them into court. Jty trivial offenders I have in mind well meaning citizens, who through ignorance or otherwise, offend against .some provision of the state or city laws. Knuds Traltlc Pollex. "I believe w have at present ft very efficient traffic police department, and they are efficient because they have been instructed and trained to be courteous and civil to drivers and have sought to enforce th traffic laws by persuasive and courtaou methods, rather than by resort to arrests and court trials. "Track elevation has been delÄjed because prices during and immediately following the war were abnormally hi.ju and for the further reason that every department of the aumlni(! atlon having jurisdiction of the matter, has, during the past two years been laboring to accomplish the lemoval of the Grand Trun'.c from W. Division st. This great work is well under way and is (nt- of the reasons uiged upon me to stani' for reelection, the argument being uned that I. being familiar with every step taken, should continue the negotiations. The rem ova I of the Grand Trunk is not an assured fact. Many important tilings remain to be dohe. A mistake now or in the negotiation to follow during the next year or two. may result in the failure of the whole project. This would be iwosl unfortunate and Ih probably the .strongest teasou urged upon me to enter the race. "Another proiiet cloae to my heart and . whose failure 1 would deplore.
