Three offenders of the liquor laws pleaded guilty to the charts against. them and one other was found guilty when the Ci.cs wire trivd by Judge Gilmer in city court Saturday. John Shihdy, cf Lanyin Mich., adrrdtted having nctivol liquor from a carrier and also to hav.ng it in his possesion and was lined $50 and costs. Shihdy was arr-sttd Thursday by railroad d-tctiej at the Grand Trunk Kation when the package he was carrying was discovered to contain two and or.e half quarts cf whisky. Cygist was fined $3 and costs in the cases against him. The sentences were suspended. POLICEMÄH FOILS ROBBERY ATTEMPT Two Men Flee Amid Gunfire After Trying to Enter Lasalle st. Home. A bold attempt at burglary was frustrated early Saturday mornlmr when Officer Steinberg interrupted two men who were attempting to gain an entrance to the home of Louis Gross, 5211 E. Lasalle av. The men were pursued by the officer, who tired several shots at them but failed to stop them. Tho men had a pair of wire clippers and a large burlap sack In their possession which they left in their haste to ewcapo. They were at work in the doorway when the officer rounded the corner, taking aj regular turn on his beat. They ran cut of the darkness on Lasalle av. They were ordered to stop. When they failed to comply the officer fired. Tho fugitives turned into the alley between Hill and Lmericks sts. Steinburg followed and upon reaching the alley again opened fire. The burglars were evidently unhurt and continued running until they reached Colfax av., with the officer in pursuit. There thev split up. one running east and tho other west.
