BENEFIT PERFORMANCE Saturday morning, 10 a.m. to noon, to aid the Herbert Hoover Fund for starving babies of Europe. Send the children.

A Vigil That Never Sleeps

With a corps of twenty-one editors, reporters, telegraph operators fourteen men and seven girls, THE NEWS-TIMES covers the local field, night and day, keeping its readers informed of current happenings. It is the greatest news gathering and publishing agency, not only in South Bend and throughout Northern Indiana, but in Southern Michigan. Three Leased Wire Telegraphic Services and Special Correspondents Feed The News-Times Columns From All Nooks and Corners of Earth THE NEWS-TIMES with its three wire services the United Pres3 and International News services, supplemented by the Associated Press on the morning edition, stands connected by telegraph with every news center of the world. News dispatches are received by .operators employed in THE NEWS-TIMES offices and nothing escapes the telegraphic editor's notice. His problem is what not to print; to cull the best from this mass of world-wide news. Besides special correspondents are employed in such centers as Washington, Indianapolis, and nearer home, in Elkhart, Laporte, Niles, Plymouth, Goshen; everywhere, say, in St. Joseph and surrounding counties. In this respect The News-Times equipment is equal to that of any newspaper in Indiana. Special Features Daily and Sunday That Break Up the News Monotonies , Beginning with Feb. 1st The News-Times becomes a member of the Newspaper Enterprise Association the greatest feature service serving syndicate in the country. The features are innumerable, of a news, sport, social and fashion nature, illustrated with pictures by such writers as E. M. Thierry, Milton Bronner, John H. Wigmore, Dr. James I. Vance, Djuna Barnes ajid Olive Roberts Barton the latter of whom has been with us before. It also brings to us daily The Satterfield, Condo, Parks and Ahern Cartoons and the Allman and Blosser WellKnown Comic Strips

which will be in addition to the "Toots and Casper," "Barney Google,

and "Polly and Her Pals" that we are carrying daily now. A page each of these latter two, another page of "Just Boy" and one of "The Katsies" go to make up a highly colored Sunday comic supplement always interesting to the children and some grown-ups. AMOUNG THE STARS BILL ARMSTRONG NEWS-TIMES PEST Everybody knows Bill Wilbur Roy with his "Tower of Babel;' the pest, not only of the whole office, but this entire town. Asa pest, his pestering speaking from the inside, consist mainly of a two or three days' vacation every time anybody outside gets riled over hi3 joke-srrith-ery, thua leaving it to ye editors to smooth it over; take the cussing. However, it's worth it. Bill has a following just five times as humorous as the papers we print quoted and requoted until no longer recognizable. "A little nonsense now and then," etc. You know the rest. Well, that's why Bill is tolerated; "relished by the best of men" and Evelyn. MISS HELEN ROWLAND AS MRS. SOLOMON America's most noted woman satirist. Her "Mrs. Solomon Says, in The Sunday News-Times, and her "Reflections of a Bachelor Girl," and "As A Woman Thinketh" articles, are all classics. Miss Rowland isn't a female preacheress. She is a philcsopheress. Gel the Rowland habit and see the world of femininity with unsealed eyes. It's a revelation in polite sarcasm. EDGAR A. GUEST AND JAMES J. MONTAGUE These are the day to day poets among The News-Times features supplemented Sundays by Arthur Brooks Baker. What these three can't think of to weave into rhyme well, simply isn't worth iL Guest writes of "Just Folks," Montague on "More Truth Than Poetry" about everything, and Baker, he merely writes. Do you appreciate timely poetry? You will if you start following these. Get the habit. Poetry is sunshine. "PAT" McEVOY BACK WITH US They always come back. "Pat" started here. When he wants to be dignified he signs himself "J. P." His first name is Joseph Joe for short. His "Ignorant Essays" are a comparatively new accretion to The News-Times and that's what they are, must be, for he named them himself. He calls them "Ignorant Essays" apparently because there is so much in them that everybody knows but need to be told about before they know they know it. ADELE GARRISON THE "REVELATRESS" Proof of the interest in her "Revelations of a Wife." long a feature of The News-Times, is always present when now and then her copy fails to arrive and it b necessary to forego an instalment for a day. The telephone at once begins to rattle and her "fans" want to know "why." Not as a substitute, but supplemental to this feature, will be added the "Confessions of a Bride," the first of the coming month. Grooms, especially, should watch for it.
