e With Others

National Thrift Week January 17 to 23 One of the ten commandments of Thrift Week is Share With Others. No thoughtful man wants to live entirely for himself. Some of the greatest joys in life come from giving. Husband shares with wife and wife with husband; parents share with children and children with parents. What a dull old world this would be if we had no one with whom to divide our blessings. The fact that there is so much misfortune and poverty in the world is pretty good evidence, however, that many of us do not give a sufficient amount. How generously each person should give is a disputed question. Many people believe that it is a religious' duty to give one-tenth. Perhaps some cannot afford to give in this proportion, but certainly many can easily afford to give more. One successful business man in Chicago, who has made it a rule to give one-tenth of his income to charity, has offered to any one who adopts his method for six months and finds himself a loser thereby, an amount of money covering the financial loss incurred. The man who practices true thrift saves wisely, spends wisely, gives wiselv. Financial drives for orphanages, hospitals, colleges, old people's homes and other worthy institutions should be a bore to no one, and would not be if everybody would give in his or her proportion.
