the air. Congress would like very much to vote a substantial t'onus. I ut does not fee any way to raise the momy. The public fels the samo way aboui it. The secretary of the tnasury estimatis that the bonus measure now pending, piviny: service men several choices in the farm of compensation, would probably cost th- government 52.300.000,000. It would not all have to be paid at once, but a pool deal of it would. As the matters stand, there is a prospective deficit of $2.'00.000,0Ca in the United States treasury for the present fiscal year, tndir;' next June. This means that the government is already in a. bad way financially. Income tax enliectians w.'.l be lower, becauso of the slump in business. Unbs the income tax is revised quickly to yield r.ure revenue, it will be impossible even to meet th interest on the national debt without v:iH hew borruwir.es. At best, it wiil be rrcfin- tl raise many hundred millions, durinc the sprint,- and summer, on slmrttcrm note., at a hiuh rate of intfrest. What will happen if a billion or two Is added to present obligation, to meet tho bonus demands? It wi!i certainly wrench the national credit. tltrhten private credit still more, and hinder tho normal resumption of business. Recognition of these facts impels Congress merely to ijiark time far the present, as recrards the bonus and other proposals involving lare expendltur'. It would bo manifestly unsafe to attempt any such undertaking until tho solvency of the United States tre isury and the saf -ty of American business arc assured. If the bonus were voted today, the Service men would have no assurance of getting it; and if they wer. to get it during the coming year, it might he at the xpenso of closed workshops and widespread poverty.

Why We Go

zo lviarKet

In a few days we leave for "market" which means a visit to the big furniture exhibition buildings in Chicago and Grand Rapids, The reason we attend these exhibitions held each January and July is because we do not buy our furniture and rugs from traveling salesmen who sell only from photographs and offer only what their respective factories may have to dispose of. Rather we see the actual furniture in the Exhibition Buildings inspect it; compare it; choose it; make price comparison, construction comparison, finish comparison, style comparison. That is w?hy you can always depend on the furniture and rugs you buy at Heller's. We would not ask you to buy from photographs and that's why we spend the time and money to visit the furniture markets so that we may not have to buy from salesmen's photographs. This is a good thing to bear in mind when you or your friends have furniture to buy. Going to market enables us to secure the correct styles, thclowest prices and the best workmanship and we have the product of hundreds of factories samples of which run into thousands of pieces to select from. P. S. Special commissions executed. We will ive personal attention to any out-of-the ordinary purchases that you may wish made.
