A bill prohibiting the manufacture, sale or wearing of heels more than one and a half Inches high will be Introduced la the Massachusetts fctntc Legislature this winter, and every effert will be mace to haTe it immediately enacted into law. Dr. It. Kendrlck Smith, of Boston, in explaining his reasons for his advocacy of the bill, said: "Put a three- inch prop under the heels of a statue of Venus aud the statue tips forward at an angle of forty-five degrees, llccause it is Inanimate it will fall over. Put three-Inch French bcls under the feet of a living Venn . She does not fall over because she is alive and is capable, by continuous exertion and great strain, of overcoming the tendency to fall; but the result is flat chest, protruding abdomen, hollow back, falling stomach and the diseases to which these things lead pulmonary tuberculosis, indigestion, chronic backache and circulation interfered with. All women who wear high heels are deformed."
