TOP OF MT. BLANC SLIDES OFF; AVALANCHE SWEEPS FOR TEN MILES V

The top of Mt Blanc fell off several days ago and started an enormous avalanche, which rolled down into

Italy along the gorge ot the lirenva ülacier, destroying in its course the whole forest of Pourtud. The origin of the avalanche was unknown until November 27th, when the weather cleared, and powerful telescopes could be brought to bear cn the mountain. Then it was found that part of the limestone pyramid which forms the summit of the

greatest mountain mass in Europe had split and fallen. It looks as if several score feet had been taken from the height cf the mountain, which is given in books of reference as 1 5,782 feet
