The weapon waa discharged while hi lfeft hand waa resting1 on the muzzle. The bullet partly cut off his left hand, shattered his Jaw, neprly eevered his tongue, and drove part of hla Jaw Into the back of his head. Newton walked half a mile to a waltlnpr automobile and rode 10 miles to a physician who amputated the har.d, reshaped his Jaw and stitched hla tongue together. Newton will live.
