The iecal mentor gave his men a long signal drill follo'V'd by a 45minute scrimmage against the seconds. The varsity tore tho seconds' hne into bits and went for large gains. Sal, .tlll Out. Thie'ens and Sluss are both hard hitting men and both can handle themselve.t well. Edwards .s in good shape and the little, mighty halfback is looked upon to make vomo large gains.
HOUFMANS VS. HOPPK. Billiard fans this fall are promised one of the daintiest morsehs in many a Ion? stretch of the sporting calendar. Edward Horemanf, famous Belgian cue star, recently landed in New York and he is not going to let his- cue rest until he meets Willie Hoppe and settles international supremacy in the 18.2 balkline game. Horemans did- not arrive in time to compete in the world's professional preliminary tournament held In San Francisco and, hence is net eligible to compete with the peerless player in the tinaJs which uro to be held at the Hotel Astor, NewYork, Dec. t. 7 and 8. He is expected to play Hoppe, though, soon after the close of the event and before the champion on his customary tour of the country each winter. At match between Horemans and Hopive oughht to be one of the biggent drawing cards in the history of the cue game. The Belgian has stirred all Europe with his wonderful ..performances. He comes to America with a record of having made runs of 200. 300, 400 and even 500 and made those performances under championship conditions. Those marks were made while playing against such noted players as Louis Cure, the French expert. Once near tho close of last seaon he made an average of 6D while playing Cure in an 1,800 point match. Several of his runs at that time ran into the hundreds.
