American Youths Enter College at Record Rate in Past Six Years. NEW YORK. Oct. 1 3. American youths entcrlngs college have increased in numbers at a record rato during tho pa?t six years and if the proportionate prowth Is continued to there will be 1.138.000 studerta In 210 Institutions where 204.G00 were enrolled laat year. These figures, compiled by tho Institute for Tubllc Service, have raised tho question of where the money needed to educate theso larger groups will come from. Julius II. Harnep. chairman of the Institute, found in a study of the figures compiled that this year's Increae in the number of students enrolled in tho colleges has pet a new record. Slkow InrreaAf. College which in 1914 had 187.OCOstudents and last year 234.000 willtnroll 471.000 in 1530 and 831.000 in 19S0, if they continue the same number increase each year, a report cf the Institute states. But. If they grow at the average percentage rate of the last six years, they will have 6 0 3.000 students in 1030 and 1.13S.00O twenty years later. Taking the lower estimate for 10SO. it "means rinding facilities for more than three times the total for 10 20 at pIx or seven times the salary co?t." said the report. "It means adding 641.000 students, or 200 collepes the size of Yale last year.
