people looking through the bars and saying things about her feathers. She's a zebra trying to pretend she's a cart horse and never snuffed a desert wind or listened to the hushing lullaby of the Jungle in all her life. Poor Catherine! And yet, if you should ask the people tha she knows about her, they would just say. "Kate's qreer'' or "Kitty is a nut." and that would be the end of it as far as they are concerned. For the- sort of people Catherine knows are the sort who think anyone who is different from them must be feeble-minded or something. Catherine is unusually intelligent and rather fastidious. She isn't vain and she doesn't care much for fine clothes, but she does lik the feel of fresh, cool linen. She likes plain little hats and neat little frocks, and s-he simply can't bear to do her hair in "dips." just because the rest of the girls wear their hair that way. Catherine likes to read And she likes to walk through tho crowded street and make up stories to herself about the people she meets there. She likes poetry and she is very fond of music. Oh. yes! She likes dancing well enough and she isn't at all a bad dancer, but she isn't so crazy about it that she's willing to go anywhere with anyone, just to dance. And somehow she doesn't feel at home with the men and the girls that she knows, and ?.he has more
-than a suspicion that they, üon t feel
at home with her. Work Will Help. Pitt tSarft'i rnA r-t r r Vi rr n c ? -

i il ten you what to do, Catherine. You find work in some other city, and go live in a college rettlement or some such place as that. You will find people there who are fond of books and pictures and music, and they will have manners that please you. and you will not be ashamed of them. Perhaps. howeer. they might be ashamed of you. Have you ever thought of that? Rut why ahou'el you try to live with people who do not understand you. just because you were born among them and brought up in the mTdst of them? You belong in another world. It may not be any better than this world yon're in now. But it's different and you? are different, and yeui will never be happy jntil you get into your own circl? where, you belong. It isn't all in what you have always been used to. I know a girl who was horn of rich parents, went to a fashionable boarding school and knew only people In a certain exclusive social set. She met the steward on a steamer, married him and went to live with him in his own country and I never saw a happier woman in my life than she is. No! It isn't because phe's In
un
shorn, and there was something nbout his collar, anrt then ho chewed tobacco, and she couldn't bear that. But when she spoke to him about it.
hp said that if she didn't like it. she I knew what .e could do. He' wasn't! . . . i
goin? to enaneo his ways ror any woman. And he talks loud In the street and says things about other women who pass. And Catherine doesn't know what to do. She loves him hut he is ashamed of him. And
love with her husband that she:s so happy. That isn't the only reason. She belongs to her hus-band. She ha th same -ideas, the same- outlook or; life as he has. She knows Just exactly what he -thinks and feels the same way. I think she would have made a great mistake Is she had insisted upon marrying fiomebody who happened to be Lorn a neighbor to her, and who hadn't a single thought or feeling in common with her. Make Your Own Friends. Catherine, you're out of place. Every word of your . letter - shows th,at, and if you are s anxious to get away from the people with whom you are associated whisper there isn't much doubt that they will be just as dclightc-d to get rid of you. Find your own place in the world. Make your o-n friends. Live up to your own standard? and if you marry, marry a man of whom you ar not ashamed and who would not dream of being ashamed of you.
