Winifred Black Writes About: Love and Make-Believe
DEAR WINIFRED BLACK: Yesterday at noon a group of girls in the office here were discussing their various love affairs. I kept rather silent because, somehow or other I cannot talk about that in public. One claimed that a girl can go Just as far toward loving a man, keeping her feelings and love for him under such perfect control that If he grown tired of her or if they disagree, she can just forget, without a single moment of pain, that he ever even existed. Do you believe thi.i is so? I am engaged to bo married to the man I love, lie is clean, good and true, and consequently I have every reason to be the happiest girl on earth. I do not mean that he is a paragon; he. isn't. He's a young business fellow, the type we see in town every day. and he loves me. Now. I know that I love him more. If possible, every day of my life. I am true to him and I would rather go through Hell itself than cause him one moment's pain. Please do not think that I go around expressing such feeling; I don't. But down in my heart I know that he is mine now and for all the time; that If ho grew tired of me, I'd love him Just 0 & vo-vVi-t to xiaiaaa. rous

I was shocked to see how very ill she looked. The blue veins on her eyelids stood out alarmingly, and her manner was so quiet that I guessed she was putting a repression upon herself which was dangerous to her nervous system. When she finally opened her eyes the wild anxiety in them startled me. "I'll tell you in the shortest way possible." she said.
