Woman Continues to Hold Off Authorities SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 2T. Mrs Martha Gray. 25 years old. b irri caded in a room in the central police emergency hospital 'here early today, continued to hold off authorities. Follre were driven from the room list night shortly after Mrs. Gray was arrested for an alleged attempt to kill a deputy sheriff with an iv pick. She has threatened to kill any one apr reaching her room in th hospital and twice fired into the ceiling to emphasize her protest.

Mrs. Frank Hupe. N. Sixth t., was hostess to the River I'ark Independent club Thursday afternoon. Following the business session the guests were entertained with music and a number of interesting contests. Favors were won by Mrs. William Ault, Mrs. Frank Harr, Mrs. Hupe, Mrs. Fred Slade. Miss Helen Kager and Kenneth Rufe. A two course luncheon was served. The next meeting will be held Thursday. Sept. y, at the home of Mrs. Fred Slade. Miss Helen Iirsen entertained 12 friends in celebration of her birthday anniversary. Miss iJella Cleason furnished music for the evening. The contest favors were won by Xoris Mann and Juils Connant.
