Not all of the departments have l-'Kun to gather the data for t?lr requisitions, but rough estimates aro available In most cases, showIns considerable Increase over the l'JZO fl eures. Incvoased Salaries. Increased salaries in all departments aro the cause for the Increased, amounts necessary. With a CO percent Increase to the fire and police department, and the addition of 25 men, under tho two platoon system, to tho flro department, the board of safety has tho 1 arrest payroll. Tho building department, too, faces the same problem, having been unable to obtain qualified inspectors at the present rate of pay, although tho employment of two additional Inspectors has been authorized. The building department will probably ask for a Ü0 percent Increase, or $,".000 extra, according to the rough estimate made Saturday. Iabor Is also tho main difficulty of the park department, which, according to figures based on tha 102C expenditures, will need In the neighborhood of $00,000. Tho appropriation for 1920 was $21.000. of which J20.467.71 had been spent up to July 17, with tho park season Ies than half through. Tho health department, including tho salaries of the various inspectors, will need more money for 1921, although anything liko acciato estimates are not yet available. The water department, too, i.s unable to forecast its needs at this time. Indications, however, from all departments place South Herd's probably budget raise at about 000.
