Veteran politicians today declared the platform adopted yesterday by the democratic national convention one of the best in the party's history, from a vote-getting standpoint. Satisfaction with tho platform was general among democracy's hosts, except for those who were defeated in their efforts too amend it will Inevitably be to the advanhad completed it. That Pres't Wilson's Influence was paramount in the. framing of the platform was disclosed today by Sen. Glass when ho explained why ho and other administration leaders counselled silence on the liquor question. That was done. Glass said, so that nothing should bo permitted to cloud tho issue nearest Wilson's heart the league of nations. IjenTuo Issue Clear. That the league issue is now clear and unmistakeablc, the election will constitute the "solemn referendum" which Pres't Wilson, in his Jackson day dinner letter demanded, there is no doubt, party loaders said. They declared the treaty plank adopted by the republicans at Chicago and the democrats Ind put it up to Americans to decide who they should follow the senate or Pres't Wilson. One change was regarded as significant in the following paragraph: "The final patriotism exhibited "by American soldiers, sailors and marines constituted a sacred heritage of posterity, the worth of which can never be recompensed from the treasury, and the glory of which must not be diminished by any such expedients." The chango consisted in elimination of the words "by any such expedients," Sen. Glas: explained that the words had been left In by mistake in copying the platform. Some delegates, however, construed the change as a precaution to prevent the party being too badly committed against a cash bonus for soldiers.
