"It was one of the most humiliating episodes in our history, and we shall atone for it yet." s-aid Dr. Herbert L. Willctt in referring to the rejection of the League- of Nations by the American senate in his address before the members of the Fellowship club and their ladies Tuesday iiitrht. Here was a man of brilliant intellect, power, brain?, of great learning, one whose speeches have thrilled Furope as they have thrilled intelligent Americans, and a republican to the bargain, daring to criticise his own political party ar.d at such a time! Of course, being tender hearted we felt Forry for the few republicans scattered ihrouch the audience whom it was possible to pick out by the crimson bluvhea that suffufed them. Little wonder they turned their faceH to the cellin?, wrbfRled in their chairs, and evidenced pain. Hut. what's the use. They have no sense of shame! It was a great banquet. The presence of the women folks cast a scintillating radiance over the Katherln which helped to alleviate the sacrifice of the n.n smokers who had to do without for fully five hours, the lonrrst time between smokes we can remember. Notwithstanding this condescension, we would suggest the den- eres be invited to at least two such functions next season. is beautiful. Ahem! Mishawakans have reason to feel proud of th Fel:ovshI; club. Without exception: It's on? of the best things that has ever been done for the city, and there is no chance of it's losing out. While we hate to be invidious, as a rule, we are compelled to pay a high compliment to Melville W. Mix, president of the organization, for making possible the flne banquet hall with a seating capacity of 300. Puch an asset is a credit to the city, and when Mr. Mix has crossed the bourne, which we trust will not b for many years, the hall will stand a-s a Atting monument to hia Indomitable public splritedr.ess. Whil throwing bouquets, we must not forget Charlie Ostrom through whose indefatigable energy and enterprise the Fellowship club has become a permanent success. True, he met with opposition when he originally suggested such an organization for Mishawaka. but if it is any satisfaction to him. lie certainly has th laugh on the other fellows who were encouraging enough to ray the city would never support such a club as proposed. ChaiTie has worked like the proverbial Trojan for the success of the undertaking, and we say in all sincerity, "Hats Off to Him!" We had never seen Fred Eberhart in the capacity of chairman cf surh a big gathring hefoie, and were therefore surprised at his extensive voeahul.iry, and ability to -say the ri?ht thing at the rinnt time.
