No matter who's taking her even when he knows that her mother is going right along too. Iirious if a man calls up Mary, so furious that sometimes Mary sends word to the man that she isn't at home, and slips over to the neighbor's and telephones him from there. Outraged, if Susan even mentions a man's name without saying a word in his favor, and perfectly unreasonable when his oldest son hints that he'd like to invite one of his classmates home for the week-end. One classmate he allows he's awkward and stupid and the girls hate the sight of him. Father likes him very much and often wonders why he doesn't run in more frequently. Tho other night, when Mary had two girls over to make fudge, and three nice young fellows happened in. Father raged and stormed so, that it was all his wife could do to quiet him, and now she is suing him for divorce. She says she can't stand his fits of rage about the girls' admirers. He takes them all out of her, and besides, she can't bear to sec the girl so unhappy. "lie Who Clutches " Father is amazed. Ho can't understand how his wife can be so utterly unreasonable, but the girls understand quite well. They think lt is Father who is unreasonable. Insane? Xo, I don't think he is, or if he is. he is afflicted with quite a common form of dementia. I know at least a dozen fathers who are tortured with mad jealousy of their own daughters. It's the male idea of domination the rooster In the barnyard doesn't know whether the rew rooster is coin? to make love to the Rhode Island Red hen or the bantam, and he doesn't care. He's the dominant male in that barnyard, and he'll fie trying to keep any other male on the other side of the fence. This is not a very egant comparison, is it? Put I never see or hear of one of these Jealous fathers that I don't think of It. I know a man who is -so jealous of his own daughter that he won't let any man under 6 0 come near the house. And the ether day when he found out that ore of his partners a man of 62 was p'anninc: to run away with his daughter, he almost went crazy. Women are sometimes jealous of their own daughters, jealous of youth and beauty and popularity, and that is the most dreadful thing to see of all. How foolish we all are with our desperate clutching for our authority and demand for love. If you want to lose a thing, they say in Chinese, hang on to it as tight as you can or so we should translate it in the vernacular. "He who clutches, will lose," say the Chinese. Alua.vs Ilunnins Away. I've known several of these jealous fathers and the queer thing about them is that their daughters are always tunning away with some strange young man they met at th house of somo comparative stranger, and Father is always utterly amazed at the folly and ingratitude of youth whenever he drives one of his own girls into just such a marriage. I don't believe I blame Mother very much for wanting to divorce this particular Father. With a houseful of pretty girls and plenty of money to spend on parties, and lots of time and a heartful of love for them all. to have to sit by and watch the simple, natural process of life thwarted by an egotism of jealousy it must bo rather a hard lot, must'nt it?
