The public market was more or less an exchange place for farm and prarden products. The value of commodities exchanged was placed by an a pent of the United States department of agriculture at more than $1.000.000. In August. 1 :!:, alone. $292,000 worth of food was sold at prices under the current list which soverner retail dealers.
