CITY HALL CROWD
HAS AMBITION TO CONTROL COUNTY ir-on Aurod liv Citv i i Attornov That Ur May m I Become Leader. With th mmini," of two pr.-i-dentbtJ randidate dtirin' thf ptaer.t watk. home republaan h.idtrs; ro devoting their attention to national und Ht.ite politic?, while tht re ru-A othrr who appear to be more intrr.-tt-d in the nomination and rlf'Ctlon of their personal rhoic.- of candidate, for county rfti?-s. with th hop" of controlling thf affairs of trin county ki.Sx.vr the November 1 lectio rvs. In fact, the contest between the birki' of candidates for the republican nomination for places on the county ticket is becoming so bitter that son:e of the men in the opposing ear:ps are not ivui on : jit ak'in'-T U rms. Control AfTairs. I'or instance, tht city hall crowd 5ucceedcd in brincin--: out a su:tiI cicnt number ( I candidates for counJ ty oüices to completely control the aiians of the county if they are s:ncM.'saful at the primaries '1 week. from Tuesday, and at the polks next November. City Atty. Thomas V. Slick. Mayor Carbon's present political advisor, has succeeded in brir-fin out a futhci.-nt number of his henchmen to plaee the county in the jrrasp of the city hall if enough votes can j be secured at the primaries and elecMr. Slicik picked his brother. Albert .lick, ler the nomination for county treasurer after l-Yanklin M. Lloone had been thrown into the Uisv-ard by the administration, although .Mr. Boone was induced to become x candidate by tho urcin of number.-? of the administration. Mr. Boone was a member of the Carson board of public safety as lone its he could stand the way things were conducted by that board. IJrothcrly l.c. Fi lends of .Mr. lloone are not looking with the most friendly interest upon tho action of the city attorney in bringing out Iiis brother acainst the former safety board member. Then there i Floyd (). Jelllson. candidate for the republican nomination for prosecuting attorney. Mr Jellison is Ciy Atty. Slick's henchman, even having- an otlice with Mr. Slick. Ueorge A. Harron, candidato for the republican nomination for state representative, is another lick henchman, as is also John W. Hartum, candidate for the republican nomination for county commissioner for the middle district. The city hall, republican leaders claim, wants to reach out into county .mains. The adminiHtratlon wants to be the hub of the county. Mayor Carson wants to be the political loader of these parts, and the cltv attorney is said to have assured the mayor that he is with him in this ambition. 1 The fact that the administration is taken up wholly with county politics may erplnin why city hall leaders do not seem much interested in any of the presidential and gubernatorial candidates who happen to visit the city. City oltlcials failed to attend the Fesler meeting here some time aso. and none of the city hall crowd was at the Toner nieetinc. Mayor Carson failed to show any particular interest in Sen. Harding of Ohio when ho was here, and the contender for county political power is not very much interested in the coming of Sen. Johnson and even of Gov. l,owden here this week, although the mayor swore his allegiance to Gov. lewden at Indianapolis several weeks ago.
