HOLD INQUEST IN LAPORTE MURDER CASE
IAPOIlTK. Ind.. March 22. That Victor Howes, postofrtco clerk, was mentally irresponsible for the tragedy of Saturday night, in which another chapter of unrequited love was written, appears to be the eipinion of the police officials .and nearly every person who knew the slayer of pretty Catherine Kudolph. It developed at the Inquest today that the murderer and suicide had purchased a revolver about a week ago. Soon after the purchase of the weapon Iiowes told Police Sergt. Schroeder that he bought the gun as a matter of self-protection. Howes was a postotllce employe, going on the night shift at 12 o'clock and working until f. a, m. In the light of the tragedy of Saturday night it is now clear that at the time Howes purchased the revolver he had in mind the slaying of Miss Rudolph and his own self-destruction. Coroner Leeds held the inquest today, though It will be several days before the official ilndlng is returned. It Is believed that the finding will hold that Howes was mentally unbalanced at the time he hred the shots which killed the young woman who had evidently tried to rid herself of his attentions. Evidence fideluced today showed that at the time Howes enlisted in the service and was sent to the Mexican border with Co. II that there was a question as to the soundness of his mentality. Howes deserted the army while on the border and returned to his home in this city. He was apprehended and returned to Indianapolis where a court of inquiry ordered his discharge.

"My husb.xnd has actually gained eighteen pounds In Just a little over four weeks' time and says he Is feeling PiR tine as he ever did In his life," was the remarkable statement made n. few davs ago by Mrs. Mary
Winicker of 2900 Reynolds St.. Ftf . .. a M I
Wayne, Indiana, wnue teiung oi ms wonderful recovery by t.xklng Tanlac. Mr. Winicker is a valued employe of the Eckart Meat Market, "For several years my husband had been In poor health and then about a year ago he had a severe attack of Influenza which was followed by pneumonia. After getting up he looked weak and thin and his complexion was ?allow. He thought he was able to go back to work anyway but he had worlced only five days when he was taken to the hospital and operated on for appendicitis. Well, when he came back home he was weaker than ever and I h.ad to wait on him all the time. Ho h.ad little or no appetite and his stomach was badly upset. Right after he took any nourishment gas would begin to form on his stomach and press close In around his heart and caiu.se It to palpitate so bad he said he thought he had heart trouble. He had a continual cough day and night and was never able to get much sleep, and we. became alarmed at his condition bicause he kept losing In weight until he got down to one hundrcd-nlneteen pounds. "Finally he said he was going to try Tanlac as he had been hearing so much about It, and we were slmnly overjoyed at the way he began to improve. He has taken four bottles now nnd I can hardly understand how anything could make such a difference In him. He weighs one hundred-thirty-seven pounds now. looks like another person entirely and is in perfect health. He eats just anything I prepare for him and is never troubled afterwards one bit. He sleeps like a child at night and Is working every day and says he does not think any person could feel better than he does4. I was suffering myself from Indigestion, bloating and palpitation after every meal and seeing what Tanlac did for my husband I began taking It too. And now- I can eat whatever I please without any trouble nnd am In splendid health. We both' think Tanlac is Just wonderful and feel deeply grateful for what it has done for us." Tanlac is sold in Sotith Rend nt the Central Drug Store and In Mishawaka at the Red Cros Pharmacy.
