At th center of the clutch there is usually a bearinq which fits over tb.e r.d of the extended crank fhaft. This bearing f-rvc3 to support and center the clutch. The ftfrage battery ii undoubtedly run down or dichared fo such an extent that it will not liht the lamps, much les operate the starter. Would surest that you remove the battery and have it charged, being careful to mark the wires so that you will experience no difficulty in replacing. Unless you ar familiar with the charging of a storage battery you had better have it harged at some garage by those familiar with the process. If the battery receives a full charge no further difficulty should be experienced. Note also that all wire connections are tight. Motor Department What 1 necessary to keep the' valves in good order? rpuent intervals the valvea should b5 reseated, especially Is this true with the exhaust valves, since all the prod icts of combustion pass over them. There is no reason why the valves f-.hould pet out of time of their own arcord. The camshaft operatir.tr the valves is driven by a gear which is positive in itt action, of cours", if this gear should become loosened on the shaft the valve timing would be disarranged.

Th- valve push rods need inspecting

at fre.ju-nt intervals, since at the?

points the adjustments may become loosened and upset the timing. This is a simple matter, however. The i harance allowed between the valvo

stern and valve push rod range

from 3 to 5-1,000 of an inch. The

differential constitutes a part of tho

rear axle assembly in shaft driven

cira. It consists of a number of Kears. designed and assembled in

such a manner that each rear wheel

can turn independently of the other.

When road conditions are normal

th whole differential turns as a unit. This construction affords flexibility and relieves the driving'

members from unnecessary strains

when driving over rough roadj.

turning corners, etc. Motor Department I havo a car which began to miss Are. I stopped

the en;;ine, and in removing the pluss took the wires that lead from the magneto to the plugs off also. When I tried to replace them I could not remember how they were placed, and I suppose I must have put them in the wrong place, for I could not start the engine. Several friends tried to help me without success. A call was sent to a garage for a mechanic and he could not start the engine cither. After towing the car to the garage a man employed there shifted the

wires and in a few minutes the engine started and has run all right since. How can I avoid this in the future? II. F. It is evident that you did not roplace the wires according to their order of iiring. A four-cylinder engine Pres either 1, 2. 4, 3 or 1, 3. 4. 2. In replacing the wires the order in which inlet valves open and close. Remove the hard rubber plate, which covers the magneto distributer. This is a device which distributes tho high tension current to the plusrs. Crank the motor over which the pot cocks open, until a distinct hiss is heard at No. 1 pet cock. Crank motor slowly with your finger over this pet cock until the air pressure stops. This will Indicate that the piston has reached top center of compression and this is the point where the spark ignites the gas. Then return to the rnag-

Its Real WoÜh.

TT is easy to boast and make claims and to so magnify mere incidents that they may appear as mighty events. It is easy to paint in the colors of exaggeration. Chandler advertising has never carried boasts or unfounded assertions to the public. It has never extolled some single performance as final evidence of superiority. The Chandler Six is so distinctly the leader among medium-priced high-grade cars because of its own worthiness, which for sales purposes does not need the support ofexaggeration. Chandler worthiness comes primarily, of course, from its great chassis, light, strong and enduring, featured by the famous Chandler- motor developed throughout seven years of constant manufacture with no changeof type oidesiön, but with refinements and developments which have Kept it long strides ahead of any other six. This isn't a claim. Ifs a fact, and over sixty thousand Chandler owners would tell you so if you could ask them. Six handsome bodies, splendidly built and finished, are mounted on the one standard Chandler chassis. OtKer cars of some similarity are listed at hundreds of dollars more SIX SPLENDID BODY TYPES Seim-Passcnger Touring Car, S1S95 Four-Passenger Roadster, tl 895 Four-Passenger Dispatch Car, $1975 Scwn-Passcnger Sedan, ?2S95 Four-Passenger Coupe, S2795 Limousine, S3395 (.All Pricj. o. b. BALANCED TO ZERO What enables the cvcro-ElGHT to be so light ai;d yet possess such strength, endurance and stamina? Aerotypc cnginfrring his solvrd the problem of obtning strength without relying on bulky weight. The tenuous frame work of the aeroplane is able to support almost unbelievable burdens and to withstand the rigors of the most violent strains. Absolute co-ordination of all supporting members is required so that each will share in maintaining the load applied at any point. The entire mechanism is balanced to zero. These principles of perfect balance are applied in the design and construction of the cvfrro-ElGriT and vest its mere 3,600 pounds with strapping vigor. FARNEMAN-TASHER MOTOR CO., 515-517 S.
