INVESTIGATOR OF HEALTH DEPARTMENT FINDS SCARLET FEVER Robert Finney, eiht years old, S0R Cottage Grove av was found to be sufferinp from scarlet fever by an investigator from the board of health ollico and a quarantine xvas established on the premises Tuesday afternoon. The investigation was ordered when a complaint came into the health ottice that a case of scarlet fever xvas in the house but no effort at quarantine had been made. The health board Wednesday issued a statement asking cooperation in like cases. It is reported that supressed cases have been discovered throuph Similar means and at every report a thorough investigation is made. "The public health and welfare demands it." said Dr. Frr.yermuth. "and xv e are determined to place a quarantine in effect in every home where contagious diseases are known to bj present." Miss Helen Cluilfoyle, local pianist of capable talent, opened the program xvith a solo "Under Summer Skies" by Wheply. Mrs. K. C. Kumpler p a v e an inspiring address on the "Service in Federation Work." In outlining the organization's xvork for next year Mrs. Kumpler etated th.it 1,500 Indiana women will cn-deax-or to pet proper fepislaturc for increases in the teachers' salaries: to save the sand dunes and to try to have passed the all time health otlicer bill. Mrs. J. W. Winn delivered a cultured address on "Opportun.'Ues for Women." Mrs. Winn is a recognized artist and in a vivid manner drew a mental picture of the freedom and the opportunities of the American xvoman in contrast to the women of other countries. She made an especial appeal for child xvelfarc xvork and closed with a beautiful tribute to motherhood. Samuel Cratlixvell Talks. Samuel Grathwell, the principal speaker of the afternoon, was enthusiasticr'ly received in his address "Gettinp Your Hoodoo." It was a humorous discourse on superstitions and realities. Some of the hoodoos which Mr. Grathxvell enumerated xvere, blindness to chance, sensitiveness and lack of self-contidence. lie stated that hoodoos were needed to develop character instead of gold. He declared that indecision was the individual's greatest fault and a doubter can never be an achiever. Mr. G rath well's address was summed up in the three words, prit. prlnd and gumption.
