AOr EXACTLY A REGULAR LEAP YEAR MARRIAGE
"Was it a leap year marriape, Mrs Hasslett," inquired the society editor. "Well n-no not ex-act-ly." came hesitatingly from the confu'-. 1 bride. Hut anyway they wrro married on .Sunday the most prripltltlous of ah the days of this exceptional year. It may h;j.- been merely the culmination of a romance be;un la fore the ausj icious 1020 started hi-- romantic ran 'T thrn 11 ml' hav0 l'",n ai !',m' blends rumored, that Fred Hasslett of Itochester, Ind.. a lotii? time admlror of Miss Rose Ii Hue, private secretary to C. L. CranL-er of the Studebaker corporation, was a l it bashful but was not too thy to respond with a heartjafMrmative to Miss Ia Hue's leap year question. I5c that as It may the marriace service was performed Sundav afternoon at 5 o'clock by Rev. C. A. Sickafoose of the United Brethren church. Mr. and Mrs. Ilasslett will reside at Clary, Ind. QOljiSTY ROAD WORK WILL BE CARRIED ON BY COMMISSIONERS Si. Joseph county road building will not be baited by the ruling of the state hoard of accounts that caused the cloinir of tho countv . engineer's ollicc at Tern Haute, according to the opinions of county tdtu-i.ils connected , ith the road program of tho county for the comin year. Several hundred thousand dollars are to be ?pent in the county during the coming season and contracts arc awaitint: the decision of the supreme court of the state on the county ui;T road law and the clause' in the newtax law requiring county commissioners to secure the consent of the Hate tax commissioners before continuing with road projects. Tests of the above laws were started recently in the superior court where Judge Montgomery upheld the stand of the? county commissioners. The case was immediately taken to the supreme court for a ruling and is now awaiting action by that body. "I don't know the exact method that is being ut d ir. Vino county," said County Auditor Sedgwick. "If the method there is to pay the county surveyor by the bond issue, then they arc in the -ame condition that we are. In St. Joseph county the county surveyor is paid by the bond issue that is used to meet the other expenses of tho road. The county engineer's department in this county is paid under a fund appropriated by the county council and is not dependent on any bond issue." "As I understand the condition In Terre Haute and Vigo county," said County Kr.fjineer T). Moomuw, "the county surveyor is tho only man that is affected by such a ruling-. This ottlce has not closed, ami from what I know now. will not close. We have a large program of road building that is going to bo put through as soon as there is a ruling from the supreme court on the county unit road law."
