The News-Times stands by its figures and calls for a re-checking of the two-month period by South Bend business men. Here is our proposition: - ' - 1 The Tribune is to select one business man, The News-Times is to select another and the two are to choose a third. This committee of three is to re-check die paid display advertising of the Tribune and The News-Times for December and January a representative of each paper to be present at the checking.

The News-Times will post $1,000 with the committee on the understanding that the Tribune will also post $1,000. If The News-Times did not carry an excess of display advertising for the two-month period the $1,000 posted by The News-Times is to be given by the committee of business men to the hospitals of South Bend. If the Tribune did not earn' an excess of display advertising for the two-month period, then the $1,000 posted by the Tribune is to be given to the hospitals by the committee. If The News-Times shows an excess of paid display advertising over the Tribune, the $1,000 posted by The News-Times is to be returned to The News-Times. If the Tribune shows an excess of paid display advertising over The News-Times, the $1,000 posted by the Tribune is to be returned to the Tribune.
