Appeals Sent to Heads of Ev-i
ery Woman's Civic Club in South Bend. Appeal to the women of the city who are employed to become members of the Woman's Chamber of Commerce is to he made throuch i letters tent out Wednesday by the organization to the Ivada of every w oman's civlo club in tho city. These letters are to be read at the next meeting of these clubs. The letter follows: "This is an appeal to um, tin housewives of South Bend, to make available to girls working et small salaries, vacant rooms in o-ir homes. "Tho girl working in factory, store, or office, at a salary ranging from $S to $1 a week is absolutely unable to pay more than 2 or $2.0? of that amount for a room. Badly cnti!ated, small rooms, and poor food arc important factors in decreasing the efficiency and ruining the health of the working girl. Lack of a. place to entertain her friends frequently results in her attendance at public dan? hall. and meeting men on tho streets. Her health and morality are at stake, and you can bo of great assistance in helping to aueviate these conditions.
