Two Men Charged With Attempting to Raise Check Issued For Subscription.
Raymond Lucy and Harold Trask, not satisfied with taking $2 from Mrs. Jacob W. Single r, 618 E. Cedar st., for a year's Fubscriptlon to a magazine which they had no authority to represent, are charged with attempting to raise Mrs. Singler's check for $3 to $300. Lucy Is beim? held at the city Jail, while the police are still lookine; for Tra.sk. Lucy was arrested at an early hour Monday morning at 1012 Qu Im by st. Sunday Lucy and Trask are said to have attempted to pass a check for $-100, signed by Mrs. SInsler. This led to an investigation. Mrs. Slr.jrlrr told the police of belnp: solicited by two men for a subscription to the "Queen Work" mapatlne, a ritholIc periodical published at St. Louis, Mo. She srave them a check for J3. Divorces Gain Over Marriages During Month
Dan Cupid lost a few points in his race with Dame Divorce during the past month, records In County Clerks Warner's office show 112 marriage licenses were issued and 4.1 divorces filed as compared with 123 licenses during October and 40 divorces. However, the month's toll of marriages Is above the average. September had but 117, August 15 and July 100. June has been the banner month of the year with 146 licenses Issued. Divorce cases are still numerous, however. Superior court still maintains Its reputation as the divorce court with all but clpht of the 43 canes being1 filed there. During October 40 were filed and In September 4. Thirty-eight of the 4 0 of October were filed In superior court and 39 of the 43 In September. Thirty-three cases were filed In August and 52 In July.
