War and Wavy Departments Consider Increase in Respective Branches.
NAVAL OFFICE SOON TO HAVE DISCHARGE BUTTONS
Several inquiries have been made of lat at the navy reeruitincr; station in reprard to the discharge buttons for navy men. Chief Commis sary Steward Alhertson announced action had been taken in re card to the buttons by the department and that thry were expected to be issued within a very short time. Af soon as they arrive lie will announce that fact.

The war and navy departments today had under consideration plans for increasing the size of the army and navy, which congress urged to adopt in event the United States declines finally to remain a member of the League of Nations. Before the Christmas adjournment of congrcf--a, Scc'y Daniels will submit a. bill for an Increase In the personnel of the navy, it was learned. AdonMcn of the general staff army rrorcu ni7atIon bill which already has been introduced in both houses and which provides for a peace time army or half a million, will also be urged. It was understood today Pres't AVilson might take up the question of armaments in his message to the regular session of congress Dec. 1, making recommendations for a program as an alternative to tlie league.
HUNT CASHIER FOR THEFT OF $50,000
Rev. William McCarroll, pastor of the First Congregational church of Cicero, III., will begin a series of lectures at the City Rescue Mission next Monday evening. Rev. IJlrd announced that the ex-

by Rev. McCarroll had not been decided upon as yet, but that they would probably be given through the greater part of the winter. Ilev. McCarroll has received considerable recognition because of hh services with the church of which he 1 now pastor. The church had been supplied by students from th theological Femir.ary at Chicago and was sadly run down. The conjrre gation was small and the church ir debt. Many advised the closing of the church, but some thought it ouht to be maintained because of the small Sunday school. Rev. McCarroll was Invited tc supply the church for one Sunday and he preached to a congregatior of 25 in the morning. 15 In the evening and received 55 as compensation. They were so impressed with hi: sermons that he was asked to tak the pastorate, which he did. After five years the church now has 1 membership of 2U0 with a majority of them active. There is a Sunday school of 32G now and a large Bibb class every Friday evening. The church formerly needed outside aid but is now free from all debt.
