KARL KRUPP FINED FOR WIFE DESERTION
Karl Krupp was fined $20-0 and costs by Judge Feig In the city court Friday morning when he entered n plea of jrullty to a charge of wife desertion perf erred by Viola Kitipp He was also fined $13 and cost.? on a charge of defrauding a board bill This charge was perferred by Mrs Alverda Hambrlght, whom ho defrauded out of SI 5. Evidence introduced showed that Krupp left his wife the weeks ago for parts unknown without providing a cent for her support. Mrs Krupp has secured a position and is earning her own living. It was brought out thnt Mr. Krupp was ir the habit of making frequent trip? to Berrien Spring?. Buchanan. Mich and Strope, Ind., to call on woman friends. IIo at one time took hi? wlfo to Buchanan and introduced her to his friend as his sister. It was brought out that the children'? guardian society at Llgonler had taken his two children from him because he could not properly pro.vice or care for them. After the Judge had given his sentence Krupp got up and told the Judge that he had tuberculosis. Tht Judge suspended his fine of $200 and cost3 and ordered him to pay $2 a week towards the support of hi: wife, while he was not taking treatment in a sanitarium. He was unable to pay his fine and costs In tht boarding house case and went tc the county Jail for 25 days.
The Mishawaka high school basket ball quintet won the first game of their schedule last night from Flkhart by a score of 25 to 10. The contest was played on tho local floor and was as pretty a one as was ever witnessed here. The second team also overwhelmed their opponents, the Elkhart seconds, with a 19 to 5 count. The railroad city crew brought withthem two special car loads of rooters and showed considerable "pep" and enthusia.sm. The game was hard fought, but the locals completely outclassed the Elkhart "aggregation, keeping them in a constant whirl with their snappy passing and long range shots. Only three baskets were made by the home bunch and two by the railroad city gang in the first half or the game, which promised to be a tight one. At the outset of the second half, Weiss and Brady, by far the stars of the panic, suceeded In potting three baskets apiece, insuring victory for the locals. Most of the six baskets made by the two were from the center of the floor. Brady played tho entire floor during the second half, his guard being unable to even spot him. The line-up was as follows: Elkhart Forwards, Evans and Whltner; renter, Swayne; guards. Warnbaugh and Russell; locals, forwards, Weiss and Graves; center, Hunt; guards, Brady and Gape. Substitutions: Elkhart. Hiss for Kvans and KIsner for Whitner. Baskets: Elkhart, Swayne, 2; fouls, Evans, 2. Mishawaka, Weiss 5, Graves 2, Brady 4; fouls, Weiss, 3. Scamp refereed the game.

DR. HOUSE SPEAKS ON SPIRITUAL HEALING
Dr. E. L. House spoke in the Methodist church last night to a large audience on "Spiritual vs. Mental Healing." Tie said, in part: "Mental healing takes in the conscious and subconscious realms of the mind, but leaves out the spirit realm of mind. It is legitimate and brings fine results. "We must not mistake a part for the whole. The trouble today in our teaching is that many of the newcults are claiming that divine healing is spiritual healing, while it Is only mental,, because It lacks the teaching of regeneration which makes for spiritual healing. "While mental healing may not be the 'anti-Christ.' it may have that effect, because it seems to save but does not. There is a way that seemeth right to men, but the end thereof Is death. "Spiritual healing is based upon the word of God, upon the atone. ment. upon the presence Af the power of the holy spirit. It means a fife of sympathy, beauty, selfdenial anil self-sacrifice. Very few are reaching It, but it is obtainable, and has the glory of the Chrl5t-life." This afternoon at 3 o'clock the subject will be "Psychic Phenomena."
