When any corporation or individual introduces methods or tools more efficient and more popular than those which have been in use, that corporation is up-to-date. It is the comprehension of this fact that caused us to order some months ago ten street cars of the one man, automatic control type. These cars will be delivered to us and placed in operation in South Bend next month. Because they are the embodiment of economy, efficiency, flexibility, speed and safety, we may consider that when we have them on our lines we are as nearly up-to-date as it is possible for a concern operating street cars to be. As they are different in design and in operation from those which have benn in use, we have considered it advisable to acquaint our patrons with them in advance of their operation in order that there may be no confusion through lack of understanding. These cars permit greatly increased service to the public while sti 11 permitting a large reduction in platform personnel. Because of the use of automatic devices, the cars can be operated at a higher schedule speed by one man than an older style can be operated by two men. ' Safety cars fully justify their name as preventors of accidents through the inter-operation of control, brakes, doors, steps, sander and emergency brake. These are all facts demonstrated through use in over one hundred and fifty cities. They have given the greatest public satisfaction wherever they have been introduced. Having done the best we could to give the best possible street railway service here, we are asking the public to cooperate with us by having the exact fare ready when boarding the cars.
