Th mot recent opportunity for fntici.'m of FairfifM has come through tho appointment of a memr r ? his family to a position In his office here. Thh practice always has Lern regarded as in exceedingly bad taste in congress and ha sub-jrct-d other memters to critic ism on th floor of the hcue. But Fairfield, 1 trcrK a ripht which undoubtedly Is his. has added to the income which he was already receiving from the government. This is just a bit of additional evidence npainst the Fairfield demand .Vr re-election. His recent adventure .,t th fields of the Chautauqu.l ('urln so Important a period In the bHiory of congress occasioned severe ritlcism from his colloatrues. especially in that Fairfield w.is beating the hiprh cost of living by making something on the side. He endeavored to remedy this error by returning before his Chautauqua tour really hould have ended under his original agreement with the Chautauqua 'management but this effort did not top the criticism. Critics In JIass Houses. Fairfield has no causo to remain silent. There is plenty of opportunity for him to repay in kind in so far ;is his colleagues from Indiana are concerned. It is a case, of living in glass houses and throwing stones. In fact the absence of the Indiana members from the house, session has become so noticeable that other delegations are referrLnjr to the Indiana section as "No Man's Imd." As an instance of Just how far this practice has gone the caso of Rep. Kraus of the eleventh district is cited. During a recent debate In the house when for some reason he happened to bo present, a question arose of returning to the treasury some funds originally appropriated to the navy department. The question was fraught with much Interest. There Itad arisen a demand from laboring men that the money should be transferred "from one department o? the navy to another and that in this

manner, work would be provided for other laborers. The return of tho money to the treasury. It was pointed out. would mean the discontinuance of work and the loss of opportunity. Just at this unhappy moment for Kraus, ho again injected himself into the debate. Immediately ho flew .igainst tho labor demand and asked that the money be returned to the treasury. Suddenly he had become l romincnt. He made the motion j that this action be taken. He could not stand the limelight rays without 1 eing the whole picture. The motion was put and after hearing the voices, the presiding officer decided that Kraus had won.

Oh. boy, i ain't it a great world, after all?" son he made the request no other person seemed to know. Someone at his sid aroused him to the fact a division would not assist him in his effort, could not do otherwise' than cause him to lose what he had won if it would do anything. Kraus was back on his feet again. The in-: cident was getting to be a three-, reel comedy. He did not want aj division, he hastened to explain, but it was too late. His demand had j been granted. It could not be with-j drawn. Kraus got his division andt lost his fight. It was a bitter lesson J but frequent attendance at house ses-1 sions will school anyone in the or-j dinary practice on the floor. j Fairfield hardly would have made; such an error. He has been there! some few times and the recent de-j mand from his district that he attend, the sessions, apparently has worked! wonders with him. He can now; point to h's record of attendance and call on his colleagues for an accounting. And he might inform the constituents of other members of the tardiness of their congressmen and, work wonders for the entire state. ! IHGIIT CX)IX)U 1 WIN TS. We now have a large supply. "It has been twenty-seven months slnco I earned a dollar, but thanks to the quick results of Tan lac, I am going back to work in just a few days." said J. W. Bell, in an interview at the home of his brother, 1 4 S West 31st street, Indianapolis, recently. Mr. Bell's home is at 4 5 Eldorado street, Stockton, California, where he owns valuable property and is well known. Mr. Bell has been foreman of the bridge building department of the Suntc Fe railroad for nearly thirty years. He formerly lived at Fort Madison, Iowa, but was transferred to the Frisco division of his road thirteen years ago and has lived at Stockton ever since. "During those twenty-seven months." continued Mr. Bell, "I spent thirty-seven hundred dollars with the hospitals, nurses and drug- ! gists, to say nothing of railroad fart? for j have a pass in going fron) place to place, trying to regain my health, and just to think that a few bottles of Tanlac at a cost almost too small to mention has put me on my feet certainly strikes me as be ing remarkable. My trouble all weeks and getting no better I was sent to a hospital In San Francisco where I stayed for eight weeks. When I got out I hardly had strength to walk across the street and had actually lost fifty-live pounds in weight. Everything I ate would sour on my stomach and bloat me up with gas until I could hardly bend over. I kept on being treated and living on a diet without getting any better until I almost gave up hope. I could drink no coffee and could only eat the very lightest of foods, such as poached eggs, mush and milk toast. I also snent a month or more at the springs near Sacramento but with everything that was done for me I got worse instead of better. "During last May I decided to come to Indianapolis, as I have two brothers living here and thinking possibly the change of climate might help to put my stomach in order and restore my strength. When I got oft the train I barely had strength to get out to my brother's house. Time rocked along me still on my diet but I never did take a turn for the better until I began taking Tanlac about six weeks ago. I commenced to improve before I had finished my first bottle of Tanlac and have been steadily climbing up hill eer since. I have. Just finished my fifth bottle now and am fifteen pounds heavier than when I took my first dose. There is absolutely nothing but what I can rat and digest perfectly now and my stomach simply feels like a new one. I sleep like a log every night and it is nothing less than wonderful the way my strength and energy have come back to me. Heforc taking Tanlac I was bilious all the time, had a bad complexion, t'Ut now I hae a pood. healthy color and my relative? lure are all an much ddlsrhtevi over my recovery as I am. My only regret Is that I did not take Tanlac long ago when I fir;: read about it in my home papers, but from now on when I need medicine I will know what to take."
