Goodrich iii his iroc!arn;ition calls attention to thf fact that there necr was a tlnv mon- propitious than the prfsent for a careful and sincere .study of the great document which hrouht our kvrmru nt into helnp. His Proclamation Follows: "We are now approaching one. of the most Important ilates in American history, Sept. 17, the day on which the constitution of th l.'nit'-d States was adopted. ThU constitution is the Krc-atet instrument ever devised hy human means for the Kovcrnin? of a frreat people. Ii transformed l:; jealous-. disunited, quarrelsome colonies into a united and compact nation, a nation whose proprn'SM and development has served as a molel for three people from that date to this. "Tho celehrntion of Constitution day has never been as general as it .should he. Certainly there never has heen a timo morts propitious than the present for a careful and sincere study of tho preat document which brought our government intc beinj,'. In the unsettled times of the last few years statesmen have shown a tendency to stray away from the paths designated hy thf constitution, and following them the people, in some instances, have regarded too lightly the force and binding effect of the document which has made us the great united force that we are. "The time is ripe and proper for a revival of our interest in .and our veneration for the constitution of the United Rates. In order that this revival may be brought about, therefore, T. James P. Goodrich, rov-rnor of Indiana, do hereby designate and proc'aim Wednesday, st"pt. 17, to be Constitution day ir. Indiana and do ask tho people s far as possible by suitable exercises in the schools of the ,tatc and in oth;T public placvs to commemorate this Important date in our country's history."
