came Fred. Unable to attract the attention of other members of tho family by his chokinp calls for help, Fred stumbled down tho laddor to the bottom of the well and splashed into tho water. Just then John and his mother and sister arrived at the mouth of tho well. Fred warned them away.
"Something's wronp," ho pasped.
John broke away from his moth- J er, who had pleaded with him not to risk his life. Dashinp down the ladder with a rope to try to rescue j his dyinp father and brother, j John, too became sickened by the j fumes. j As the mother lookod down the j shaft she could see John swayinpj from the ladder and attempting to J speak. Frantically she called for! help. Hut the house, removed from i the road, was not close enough for j neighbors to hear. j She swooned. The boys' sister called for help. When Chief of To- j lice O'lirien and helpers arrived and j revived Mrs Jahn, they could hear; no sound from the bottom of the I well. j The bodies were removed by 1 O'lirien and other men of the littie town.
