Although bids for the improvement of the I)onoan rd., which extenls from the end of the pavement on Notre Dame av. to the entrance to the university of Notre Dame and from the entrance west to the Niles rd., were scheduled to be heard at the board of county commissioners meeting Monday not a single bid for the contract was received. The reason for their failure to receive any bids the commissioners believe was duo to the low estimate cost of the improvement placed by them which was $27.000. The road will be again viewed during the eomii.g week by D. Moomaw, county highway engineer, and three viewers to be appointed by the board and the report of this committee and a new estimate will be received. Bids will again be advertised. The commissioners expect to have this road completed before fall. Ulds for three bridges were ordered advertised by the board. Two of these bridges arc located in Marshall county. The specifications for the improvement of the Kar Trail were approved. Horace Feldman and Gladys Ullne were awarded scholarships to Purdue university.

NEW YORK. Aug. II. To capture a burglar, advertise for him in new-papers. This is the novel suggestion to the police of the country by New York detectives after the arrest of Robert Lynardan, elevator operator whom the police charge with stealing $10,000 worth of Jewelry and silverware from a score of apavtment houses during the past four months. L,ynard's method, according to the police was to answer advertisements for an apartment house elevator operator and with an army dircharge as a reference, obtain the job. He then would call various apartments on the telephone and if the received no reponye would enter and loot them at his leisure the police said. The police Sunday inserted an advertisement for ati elevator operator, directing applicants to report to n shionable uptown apartment. When lyrnrd appeared he was promptly engaged and as promptly start?! his systematic looting of the place according to the police. In on apartment, however, he encountered a um er of officers.
