O.rvA-o ..-p.-.-Oscar Hammerstein, theater builder and gri nd opera producer and one of the most famous Mgures in th e theatrical and musical life, died Friday night in the Lenox Hill hospital. New York. Mr. Hammerstein suffered a similar attack about IS months ago and was confined to the hospital and to his home for several weeks, but he rallied and returned to his office, where for several months he has been engaged on arrangements for returning to the fiell of operatic production.

"Cavalleria Rusticana," "Na arriste." in all of which Emma Calve sang; "Don Giovanni." "I Pagliacca," 'Thais." "Louise." "Pclleas and Melisande," "Siberia," "The Tales of Hoiiman." 'Andrea Chenier" and "Crispinoe la Comare." A number of these had never before been heard l.i America. Other productions were Massenet's "The Juggler of Notre Dame." Verdi's "Otello," and "Dinorah." and Dlcch't "Princess d'Auberq" the last named of which failed of success. Still ethers were Straus'- "LlekttW "Griseledis." Sapho" and "Herodiade."
