TRAIN WILL LEAVE THE CITY THIS MORNING

Irvs.s Milc:ils lliixlisli. Str.ries fill the "Dailies" of outrasrj committed yy the Irish. Particular attention eiiit; yiven to political offpns-.. Sinn Fcinism has been aleled as bol-hevism. with a ('.Pterent nanu-. Th4 circulation of 'Nationality," Ihe principle paper of the Sinn Kein is condemned. The most unfair and ridiculous .story comes from the "Dally Dispatch." of Manchester. This article entitled. Villa ersus Vuleraism, bases a comparison between the American trouble with Mexico and UnslandV position with regard to Ireland. It stated, though bullets were living across the border, and men were occasionally- killed. Englishmen did not j-ympMthizo with Mexico, or in any way criticize the way United States was handling that troublesome spot. Why, therefore, do Americans persist in intruding between Lnpland and Ireland. It resented the visit of the American delegates to Ireland. There co.tld be a more ju?.t comparison to compare and criticize our attitude in relation to the Philippines. It vould have been more nsible and more to the point. Does this really show how very little the Kngllsh laymen really knows of the Irish problem? After conversing with many Englishmen, whom I judged to be of average intelligence. I am inclined to believe that the latter reason is the case. The Knglishmen I met cares little or nothing about Ireland or its demands. The press Is only too quick to grasp the opportunity to till its collimns with anti-Irish propaganda.
The growing popularity of the heir apparent to t!.? English throne is due to his democratic manner and his ability to make real friends.

; ers of the Automatic Dump Car Co.. to the number of about 20" will assemble at 9 o'clock this morning at the court house for the start of the i first annual picnic to be given by the company.
The outiig will he held at Riddle's lake near Lakeville and the trip front South Bend will be made by automobile. The program1 of ".-tunts" and events include almost everything from a dignified del ate to a tat ladies' race. The winturs of the various events will be presented with prizes in proportion to the importance of the competition. II. E. Hamilton. (Jlen A. Oranger ard Harry Lerner, who compose the committeeon transportation, state that all who attend may be assured of a comfortable way of making the trip while O. E. Fries and Anten Drezovitz, of the refreshment committee, promise plenty of eats. While the Automatic Dump Car Co. is a comparatively new organization they have made wonderful strides since starting production 6 0 days ago and already they employ more than 75 skilled workmen. Officials of the company practically all graduated from the ranks of workers, and they believe the best cooperation and loyalty result from all Interested in the company "rubbing elbow.;' at times.

by .1. i. () iiaba. ok soctii bi;m. ;-Vance. To la y ones hand on the pulse of the liis'o situation is a task for a very wis- diplomat. After spending the past two mouths in the Emerald Isl I r .list i onions that the out. come of the politiral chaos Is as pnv.zlir. as ever. I made mv first encounter with
the army of occupation in Ireland, at Dublin. Every traveler lias to pass the military police before being allowed to land at Dublin. The ruins of the British Shell lire are giving place to hne buildings once a km in. It is difficult to get any real information reardini; th- bombardment. It is very apparent that the g.imvrs tried to destroy the heart of the t-;ty. Every place were the soldiers. Not the typo of Tommy with whom I fraterni.ed. in France. e;t mere boys, without ary mark to show the j.art they took in the meat war. Evidently they W'Te beinK lured tu the army, with the increase of pay. Ciao For Independence. Money is plentiful. The farmers are perhaps enjoying greater prosperity than ever before. Wealth, howeor, dues- not satisfy the craving fur independence. It is only too apparent that there is but one thing that will bring a. lasting peace to Ireland, to .-eer tu bonds of England's rule. I : eiieve prosperity only tends to a u"- re'.'." t e tile situation. Martial law and prosperity (.an never hatmomze. Consent of the military authorities must m-t be obtained P. fot e a
crowd is allowed to congregate. Bace meetings, fairs and even funerals must first have sanction of
the authorities. I In Limerick I saw police dispersj ing the crowd at the funeral of a late member of the local Sinn Kein. ! To attend a race meeting means J to be menaced by soldiers and ma- ! chine guns and armoured tanks. I Stoppenl School Concert. I In Tipperary a concert for school children was stopped by the police, j The director was placed in jail for three months, for failing to get perj mission to hold his concert. The i conditions as I actually saw the-:T, 1 are only uniting the people in a
more determined stand than ever before, to unite for their liberty. Sinn Feinism lias no relation to l olshevism. The men are not (as the press in England had led me to believe) blood-thirsty rutrians. They represent every walk of life. They have taken the stand as a lieutenant of ih Iiish volunteers remarked. "I? the independence of our country will not be written in ink ,we are willing to yvrite it in blood." They are hoping against hope for a peaceful settlement, for their unhappy country. But peaceful legislature failing, they are united to do or die. that their native country may take its place among the free nations of the world. Ireland's cry for self determination does not disturb the pleasurebent English populace. The natural relaxation, after four years of war, will not permit concentration upon a question that is centuries old. T Lave no doubt this is the reason whv
