Board of Works Lets Contracts Totalling $169,623.12 for Street Improvement.

Five contractors, totalling $169, .'l.lL' for the improvement of South Ilend thoroughfares, were let at a meeting of the board of works in the city hall Tuesday. Lincoln Way YV. will soon be torn up and a new sheet of asphalt will replace the present surface. The contract was awarded to the White Construction Co. of Milwaukee. Wis., the consideration being: $ 33,1 38. SO. A contract for the pavement of Olive st. was allowed to the same concern for a consideration of $57,160. Two contracts, one for tho paving of Iändsey st. with a charge of $26.4;rj.U and the other for the construction of a pavement of asphalt and concrete on Uirdsell st. with a $.v.494.'j3 consideration, were awarded to the Western Construction Co. of Mishaw.ika. Hoban iv Itoaeh of South Bend were awarded a contract for the concrete pa vine: of the first alley east of Michigan s.t. from Division to Uror.son. The pHce of construction agreed upon was $4,390.-0. The award of a contract for th" installation of a trunk sewer on K. Madison st. was deferred for final discussion and probable letting Wednesday night when the board of works meets in a special session. Iuds were received at the meeting Tuesday for the pavement of California ;iv., Kim st., Walnut st.. and Sample st., and were referred to the eitv engineer for tabulation.
