Killed by I'nited States Bullets," then tearing the paper to hits, which he flung: into the face of the nearest radical. Councilman Maurice Vennet, roundest of the city fathers, only a few months Hgo a member of the United States navy, broke up an alleged radical meeting at "Washington hall last niKht, and put a stop to any demonstration the "reds" might have planned. The meeting', said to have been planned by I. V. V. agitators, was attended by Thomas Slick, city attorney, several members of the city council, and a numher of policemen. The city officials, Unding that only a small crowd had gathered, soon left the hall, but Vennet and a member of the police department awaited developments, and when the picture, a pen and ink drawing, was placed over the Speaker' table, Vennet took action. While the people were leaving the building. Asst. Chief of Police William Cassidy tore a red necktie from one of the radicals.
