.Members of the board of public K'.fety Instructed Chief of Police peter Kline to s.-e that two patrolmen are placed on beats in the downtown section of the city between the hours of j and 7 a. m., after a consultation with the chief Wednesday niht. Tho action of the board follows the reporting of the dreenblatt furrier More robbery, which took place between the hours of Z and 7 Wednesday morning. lurlnc the past few weeks many robberies hive Liken place in th; downtown section of the city. In fact, there- are so many robberies: reported to the police department that a daily bulletin is printed and distributed to tiie men at the nK'ht roll call. This bulletin enables the mm to keep truck of the larger robberies. Work of !iofi ssionals. Evidently the robberies have been
the work of professionals since all of the larger plunders have taken place when the police were attending roll call at the city hall. The board of public safety wa Informed of the condition several months aso. b,ut no action was taken. The members of the police department have bn inclined t ri little consideration to robberies in tho pa.t and In order to make d ahowInpr have arrested numerous youths. The boys have been placed in solitary confinement In the- dark cells In the basement of the city jail. There !n some dark cerner, in.som cases infested with "cooties," the boys are forced to wait sometime-; for several days before they are interviewe d by the chief of police. Will Admit AnMlilns. This camouflage arrest ins; has been carried on ever since the present board of safety nas been ia charge of affairs at the city hall. Frank Boone is the only member of the board that .-"cr promised any improvement of condition. Dr. I.,ouis J. Smith, president of the board, seems to be content with conditions, and Nelson Kiser, the other member of the board, lias never
made any other st.it err ent other than that he was satisfied to draw his salary. Frequent exposures of the police system and the many robberies led to the appointment of the two patrolmen on the "do watch."' The two officers started tht-ir daties Thursday morning.

The fakirs all wore white stars on their arms as additional rroof that th-y had been in the service. The wearing of stars is absolutely forbidden by army regulations. In a letter addressed to tho police chief. Colonel Wood says that he believes many, if not most of tho m'eri vho were peddlimr in the streets and tisin the uniform as an aid to ales were frauds. Employers who hire men in uniform to peddle for them are denounced by Colonel Woods as "cooties," who do it "simply to p'ay upon the public sympathy which the uniform arouses."
