EXPRESS HOPE OF fifj EARLY PEACE German Delegates at Versailles Have Power to Sign Peace Treaty. HERLIN Apri. 25. Irof ther M. A. Schuccklnp, one of the German delegates to the peace congress at Versailles, declared Friday thcit the powers of the German delegates would oe quite sufficient to enablo them to iign the peace treaty on the pot. Naturally, he added, the national assembly must sanction the treaty. Prof. üchuecking statements wen; made in an interview with the Zei-tunft-am 2.1 Uta?. Continuing, he s;aid: Optimistic Over Outconv;. "The importance of the delegation hould be appreciated ab an indication that the imperial government reckons on real negotiations. The contents of the latest entente note permit the opinion that our opponents are in principle inclnud svriously to rregotiate with us. "I. personally, am optimistic enouph to hope that French xeportJ of the contents of the treaty are materially inaccurate and that therefore an acceptable preliminary peace may be garnered within Hitnext few weeks, ev n though special deliberations, due to the enormous number ot extremely difficult Probien;, may be protracted for month:-. Predicts (icimany's Future. "Sensible voice?, especially from the Anglo-American tamp, have recently pointed out, and rightly, .hat it is not with the present weak Germany that peace 'I.- to b concluded, K:t with a Germany which, at the most, within two cr three decades, will again be an important factor in tec world. "I tri;st in the healthy maturity of the ideas of the entente peoples, who in the Ion;; run want to conclude peace with the German nation of 7",00(,(MtO and who do not intend to support an ii toloiablo, imperialistic policy on the part of their cabinets." SEC' Y WILSON DEFENDS LABOR DEPARTMENT WASHINGTON. April 26. See'y Wilson defended the department of labor and the federal employment service against charges of prounionism in an address Friday night before the final session of the conference between employment service olilcials and representatives of state governors called to consider the cn-ation of a permanent national employment system. The conference before adjournment endorsed by unanimous vote the rinal draft of a bill to be presented at the next session of eongrcss: providing for a national employment system established as a permanent bureau of the department of labor. "FOTYGRAPH ALBUM" PROVES SUCCESS A reproduction of the old "Fotygraph Alubum," playlet given by members of the Westminster Presbyterian church, was given Friday night at the Muessel school before the Community Civic center. The play was based on a supposedlj" oldfashioned album with characters dressed as they did a century ago. Mrs. O. F. Dalrymple. recited appropriate verses as the characters appeared on the stage. "The Old Melodian," another oldfashioned playlet with songs of long ago, was given by the Westminster church members and proved very interesting. The women who took part In this feature were Mrs. Luther Martin, Mrs. Clinton Moomaw, Mrs- C. A. Bacon and Mrs. E. W. Morse. A darky song from the days of Lincoln was rendered by Miss Helen Martin. Sixty members of the Junior class of the high school were entertained at the Y. M. C. A. Friday night. The entertainment started with a grand march which was followed by a Virginia reel and a volley ball game in the north gym. Following the volley ball game the students went to the refreshment room in the basement of the Y, where ice cream and cake were served.
