The wickedest woman in Paris, famous for her wickedness all Paris gossips about this notorious woman. "The Light," this is the toast the lovers drink, but in their hearts they know they are drinking to darkness and sin. A woolly lamb in a green pasture, that's Woman. Not many women who wear a halo is a Madonna, yet many a woman who wears a veil of sin may hide behind it the goodness of a Madonna. In "The Light" it was long before the world discovered that the wickedest woman in Paris hid a fast treasury of goodness within her. We are more than pleased to present the Queen of all Vampires

ii This great story was written to an everlasting impression. I

Not sorry because she is wicked, but because the world is mean

enough to point her out and make her notorious because of her wickedness. How differently the world treats wicked men. Men are naturally so wicked that the world takes their wickednessfor granted. It does not bother to draw attention to the bad men. It speaks only of the few exceptions who are intelligent, noble and just. But women are by nature such meek and model saints that the world doesn't bother to extol their virtues. People take for granted that woman should be truthful, dutiful, kind, and gentle as a white and woolly lamb in green pasture. So nobody bothers to speak of the good women. It's only the wicked women the world is intereectd in. The bad and sinful women are thr ones who attract attention and get all the ad-

men. And as a result, we have a paradox. Popular opinion has it that men are good and women are wicked. Isn't it nice

earned for the sex? And isn't it a shame that all women must suffer because of the exceptional woman who is wicked? It happens because the world is deluded by the foolish notion that the exception proves the ride. It all started with silly little Eve, and I hate her cordially for spoiling woman's reputation. From the day the first woman paraded her charms on this earth the world has had to labor under a misapprehension. It isn't fair it really isn't fair. We wish to say in missing this story you are missing a very rare treat. Special attention is called to the many elaborate Parisian gowns worn by Theda Bara in this gTand production. We also present one of those William Fox "Sunshine" comedies in two reels, "CHOOSE YOUR EXIT." Kiddies, also grownups, don't miss little Jane and Katherine Lee in "SMILES," Wednesday. And another good bet is Sessue Hayakawa and his cute little Japanese wife, Tsura Oarki, in "A HEART IN PAWN," Friday. Follow these tips.

N STRIKE Would Force Better Housing Conditions by Acting Together; Uy United Tress: IOXDON. March 15. (By Mail.) A strike of wives and daughters who keep houso for England's 1,000.000 coal miners Is proposed to impress the Lloyd-George government with the necessity of keeping its pre-election promises of better housing conditions. Agitators now are boosting: tho movement at neighborhood gatherings of miners wives. The wives are being ur?ed to organize unions and abstain from all household duties, including cooking and cleaning, for a given period. The women say most of them now work continuously 16 and 18 hours a day keeping thtir homes. Fenv houses near the mines are equipped with even ordinary conveniences. In proof tHeso figures are. submitted: Only five percent of mine district dwellings have bath rooms or even bath tubs. Iv?ss than 50 percent have running water; most kitchens are without sinks, and water for all purposes often must be brought from wells yards away, pail by pail. It is out of the question, the women Fay, for the usual miner's family j to buy a plot of ground and build a. i properly equipped dwelling. ! They argue relief must come from ' owners, who now are slow to build I comfortable houses. It is urged that j a strike of wives will force the govI crnment to erect model dwellings. Official refuse to discuss the agitation and brand a wives strike ea a "flighty- proposal. Some politicians, recalling that women now have the ballot, have ivcn it serious attention. PERSHING ASKS FOR MORE READING MATTER WASHINGTON, March 31 General Perhinpr ha-? cabled a call for more reading matter for the sol-' diers overseas, lie fays it is needed now more than ever. Transmitting the call today to its divisions and chapters, the American Red Cross called attention to the fact that a one-cent stamp pasted upon the cover will take th magazine to member of the expeditionary force, although some publishers recently have dropped tb notice to that effect carried by most periodicals in the ipper right hand corner of their ti rnt page.
