FORD AND HUfiON ST. IMPROVEMENTS ARE CONFIRMED BY BOARD
The n; opos ?( imin.vt ment of two strevts. Foid and Huron, brought 200 property ewners to tho meeting
of the hoard $ public works held
Wedneesday r.ight in the city hall. It was expected that a long and bitter debate .-would follow after the tw? factions had lined up, and had started giving their opinions of the situation. However, the large majority of the residents were much in favor of the street lclng improved, so much so that when one man offered an objection to it, another itarted climbin? over the rail to lay violent hands on him. The improvement of both streets were confirmed by the board, but .he property owners still have 10 days in which to file a written remonstrance with the board, after which the case may be appealed. - Remonstrances were filed against the improving of IJirdsell st- and the hearing was deferred for one week. The improvement of South IJend av. from Eddy st. to the city limits, was confirmed, also the Sherman av. improvement. The Jackson and Fellows av. sewer was also confirmed.

The submitting of plans and the d! cuss rii of th best methods to adopt to get greater activity and better results in the work of the sola centers, occupied the time of the meeting yf the municipal r-reatlon committee at the srhoid administration building. Tle niicccstions were nlmed at concentrating t. work into ffwer evlnings a week with n grenter number of grotip nt work, thus fretting the same amount of work, or more, done In n shorter length of time. This plan was cvolTed on the theory that it Is better to have the schools open two nights a week ami lined Intensively than to have them open six evenlncs a week nnd used In n casual manner. There was a dim-ussiou relatlapr to the relative value of paid and volunteer workers of the social centers. There whs also some consideration as to the wage scale for nodal secretaries of the centers and the teachers and attendants ena$ed there. Sevarul plan? were considered to en larjre the seope of the center activities, and careful thought trtveu to which pinna have worked out to the heat adrautage In larger cities. Progress Club Luncheon a Success
The musical luncheon given at the home of Mrs. YV. E. Ilryan of .Vorth hore dr- at noon yesterday under the auspices of the music department of th Progress club, 'ras a delightful success. Several hundred guests were present, all of whom were cap-tit ated with tho charming personality of .Miss i:thr Muenstermann, a well known and accomplished contralto oi Chicago. Miss Miif n.-termann rendered the musical program with a rare- artistry, her interpre tations of the various being if the highest possible order. She has a rich contralto voice of wide range, the tonal qualities bei n it esicially marked in her rendition of "The EaKle." by C.rant SeTafTer, also the "Twilight Dream" by Ki bell Sli-? sang an exceedingly difficult aria, "My Hart and Thy Dear Voice." from Samson and Delilah, which was sung with a naive finish. I'rdh her poise and dramatic ability were admirably displayed in the song "Sailor's Wife." by Hurieigh. and the 'Sick Child." by Homer. A group of French songs which she sang were most charming, and won instant favor with her audience, her enunciation being unusually distinct. She also responded to several encores. Miss Iaura Clendennen demonFtrated her .irt as a pianist as well as a most sympathetic and competent accompanist. The consensus of opinion among the music lovers was that these- two splendid artists" should be brought lack to South Bend for another concert.
