rna?;a,;er of the Woolen Co., in a few graceful bcnlenci introduced the speaker of the venin;?, who told of the pleasure it gave him to aKaln come to Indiana. He had beer, throurh the täte when the now thriving centers were nothing but mere villages, and the wonderful growth of outh liend during the pan 60 years had deeply impressed hini. In fact, it was hard to realize it was the ame city. He made it plain that Iiis address was delivered to each individual in the banquet halL I'ach was- a fcrce capable of sending" out influences for good. Inspiring Iavu;o. Home of the inypirinr passives of the doctor's lecture which have enthused tnouwands of lives follow: "I .say that you ought to get rich, and it is your duty to fc-et rich. The men who get rich may be the mot honest men you find in your community. Ninety-eijrht out of 100 of the rich men of Amtrica are honest. Tim is why they are rich. That is why they carry" on great enterprises and find plenty of people to work for them. "A man is not really a true man until he owns his own home, and they that own their homes are made more honorable and honest and pure, and true and economical and careful, by owning the home. "Money is power, und you ought to te reasonably ambitious to have It. You ought because you can do more good with it than you could without it. For a man to have money, even in large sums. Is not an Inconsistent thing. If you can hontstly attain to riches in Mishawaka, it is your Christian and godly duty to do so. The man that worships the dollar instead of thinking of the purpose for which is ouht to be used, the man who Idolizes money, the miüer that hordes his money in the cellar, or hides It in his stocking, or refubes to invest it where It will do the world good, that man who husrs the dollar until the ea?le squeals has in him the root of evil. Opportunities Here. "I there an opportunity to get rich in Mishawaka? A merchant wiys he has kept a store in Mishawaka for 201 years, and never made over a thousand dollars in the whol? TO year. Well, then, you can aay to him 'you can measure the good you have been to this city by what this city has paid you, because a man can Judge very well what he is worth by what he receives; that is. In what he Is to the world at thl3 time. If you have r.ot made over a thousand dollars in 20 years in Mishawaka. it woulj have been better for Mishawaka if they had

kicked you cut of tho city 1& years and nine months ago." "You hav acre of diamond in Mishawaka. I mean you have opportunities to become great, opportunities to get rich, which is one of the greatest things in the world. Wouldn't you love to be a millionaire? Its an honorable question. If you're not rich you are not righteou. "I have studied millionaires, and it is not the dishonest men that are the richest men. Out of 4.042 millionaires in the United State, 3,780 of them began life without a dollar capital. Three thousand five hundred of thorn made their millions in towns not larger than Mishawaka. Andrew Carnegie says there is time to think in small towns. "Inherited money is the greatest misfortune of the day. Love is tho grandest thing on God's earth, and fortunate are they who have money with it. Ife who tries to attain unto it too quickly, or dishonestly, will fall into many snares, no doiibt about that. "tftudy it wherever you choose In business, in your profession, In your housekeeping, whatever your life, find out what the people want. First know their need, and then invest yourself where you are most needed. You must know the changing needs of humanity If you would succeed in life. MUflit IIac IJccn Great. "If five merchants 35 years ago had started out in the right spirit, Mishawaka would have had 250,000 people today. "A company that is furnishing footwear to the people, as you are doing, is serving God. ' "Your wealth is too near; you're looking beyond it. "The richest man in this country today has never moved away from a town of 3.500. You never see anything over your back fence. You eay there ia no greatness among your r.v'ighbors. It is ull away off somewhere else. Their greatness is ever so simple, so plain, so earnest, so practical, that the neighbors and friends never recognize it. "Did you ever see a man who truts around altogether too largo to notice an ordinary working mechanic? Do you think he ia great? He is nothing tut a puffed-up balloon, held down by his big feet There is no greatness there. "Arise, ye men of MUhawaka, trust in God and man, and believe In the great opportunitle that are rirjht here not in New York or Iloston, but here for business, for everything that is worth living for on earth. Take up your own city. "Wherever there is a human need there is a good fortune. Wherever you find a great woman she will b3 one who Is willing to wash dishes." Dr. Conwell told of a visit he onca paid to Pres't Lincoln, whose principle for greatness can bo adopted fry toll: "Whatsoever he had to do at nil, ho put his whole mind into it and held it all there until that was all done." In conclusion the speaker painted a beautiful wort! picture of thu martyred president. A hearty vote of thanks to Dr. Conwell wan accorded. Messick's orchestra rendered a program of uirs during the banquet. The lecture was one of the greatest intellectual treats ever given in the city, and the Woclen company is to be congratulated in Its efforts to give to ita employes that which cannot fail to leave a lasting impression for good.
