After a year of absence track was again resumed at the local hb;h school when Coach Cohlmeyre issued hi3 first call yesterday afternoon for cimler artists. List year no track team could be

j organized despite the e fforts of

Coach Cohlmeyre and Captain Clyborne. The trouble was that the hijfh scliool athletes thought that Lxseball would be a bisher ucccss tlian track, while the Hoard of Control was bent on having track as the

spring sport. The result of this was

laws of that not enough men came out for

th" track to support a team, this leav-

ins no experienced men for this year's squad. The fact of having to build an entirely new squad out of the greenest of men is not the only crisis that face. the coach. The turn out of today's candidates was not as larpe as was expected, but the coach expects a much larger turnout at the next practice Friday. Another of the troubles that has rl!en In the building a successful squad is the question of the eligibility of many of the men. who showed up in the headiir.ers of the interclass meet last year, an.l who from the term's reports given out today are not eligible. Amons these men are: Shanefelt, who last year Prabed the bread jump and who could be developed into a trood distance runner: Smith, a tireless long distance runner and Uobacher a good man for the dashes. The workout today consisted mostly of excersist-s on the paralell bars and horse in order tc limber the material up a little. Some of the men that look as if they will go good are Witwer, a man that takes to the hurdles and looks like a good prospect. l-M wards, a swift man In the dashes and the quarter mile, this man placing three firsts In interchips meet and who gave Clyborne a ticht race for brst in the mile. Wedel looks lik- a good man for the high and broad jump, while Olson, Watters and Huntman look fcood for all around men. especially in the mile and weichts. on the football eleven two years ago and expect to be a big help in the rearing of the invincible eleven that is predicted for the coming fall. Alw.irj was a old basketball man having graduated, but Is taking a post graduate course, this making him not cligiMe for athletics. Odell has got the eye of the coach and he expected to deelop him into a all around man. especially track, the eoaeh being in great need of men in the jumps.

NEW YOItK. Feb. 11. Tex Uiekard, who is promoting a world's heavyweight championship boot between Jess Willard and Jack Dempsey, secured the signature of Dempsey to the articles of agreement Monday. In order that there would be no legal Haw in the agreement, Itickard and Dempsey and the batter's manager. Jack Kearns, crossed the Hudson river and signed the articles in the ferry house at Weehawken, X. J. A number of newspaper men were present when the papers were signed and the witnesses who signed the agreement were Ike Dorgan and Jack Skelly, a former featherweight champion. The trip to New Jersey was made to avoid a possible viola

tion of the laws of the state of New

York if the signatures were afUxet

to the papers in this city. Dempsey left tonipht to begin a six weeks theatrical tour at Unionport, Fa. Fefore he went he said to Rickard: "There is nobody other than Vack Kearns who has any claim on my services. Kearns is my manager and any arrangements ho makes for me will be satisfactory to me and I will fulfill them. I will live up to the contract I signed with you today and will start training the moment I get through with my tour six weeks hence." Under the agreement, Dempsey is to receive $27.500 and one third of the motion picture privileges while the champion is to get $100.000 and one third of the picture privileges. The articles call for a bout not to exceed forty rounds. Rickard said tonight he was satisfied with the progress he had made so far and would leave here in a few days to look over sites in various places throughout the country where the big contest would be staged.
